Artist Statement

Wyatt Pottorff strives for aesthetic beauty while capturing chaos. His works are characterized by metaphorical figures that represent intense emotions and swirling swaths of paint that signify changing perspective. Painting allows him to re-contextualize complex life moments and imbue them with a sense of gratifying simplicity. He hopes these images convey an embracement and adoration for the ever changing and disordered world that we live in.

Bio

Wyatt James Jackson Pottorff grew up in a small town in New Mexico. In Deming, Wyatt spent his early years doodling, painting, climbing on roofs and exploring derelict buildings and the desert with friends. His art often depicts altered worlds, animals and fierce characters. Stylistically his work is most influenced by Surrealist, Abstract Expressionist and Futurist art movements.

In addition to a studio practice, Pottorff also manages a Southwestern clothing brand, Desert Funk. He is a graduate of the University of New Mexico’s studio art program, and has exhibited in several galleries including the Shockboxx Gallery in LA, Site Santa Fe in Santa Fe, NM as well as the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC. Currently he lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
