Ink and Oil on Canvas
38 x 55 x 1.25
This is one of the first Rorschach paintings that I ever added figuration to. I was certainly inspired by Pavel Tchelitchew’s painting, Hide-and-Seek and wanted to create a multivalent image where subject matter would appear to the viewer in a delayed discovery
My abstract paintings are inspired by Rorschach tests and are part of an ongoing project to document the subjectivity of perception. Like cloud watching, people always see different images within these paintings. At times their visual projection is a shared experience, but mostly, we’re never looking at the exact same picture. The ongoing question is, what are the sources for people’s unique responses? I have come to include memory, mood and degree of imagination.
My house is a place of feverish dreams
